Hello

My name is Julia Raben, but most people call me Julie. I have recently graduated from Chadron State College's Clinical Mental Health Counseling MAE program. The program recently received CACREP accreditation. This accreditation verifies that their graduates develop a professional counselor identity and are able to demonstrate both knowledge and skill in the content areas. Following graduation, I took and passed the National Counselor Examination (NCE), a test designed to assess knowledge, skills and abilities needed to be help others on their mental health healing journey. Along with the formal education I have had a lifetime of informal training. I've learned patience and tolerance. I've learned most people are doing the best they can with the tools they have been given. I love talking to people (some would say I have had a lot of practice at it!) and helping them find their strength to make the changes in their life to be healthier. I believe in people. I think we all have what it takes to be healthy - we just may need someone to walk along beside us for a time to help us find our way.

My Story

I was born in Nebraska and have lived in Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho and now I am back in Nebraska. I have been married to my best friend for 47 years. We have five children and 20 grandchildren. They are scattered across the nation from Georgia to Montana - North Dakota to Oklahoma. As the grandchildren leave the nest, they go further and further!

I have worked many different jobs from driving a beet-truck to owning and operating a large childcare center. I have a love of people from all walks of life. I got an elementary teaching degree and have loved teaching in Idaho and South Dakota.  Most recently I taught 4th grade at Wolf Creek Elementary in Pine Ridge, South Dakota, where I learned to love, love, love the Lakota People. Getting older, I decided to find a "sitting" job, so I pursued a master's degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling and now here I am!

Having a background in education, much of my counseling will have an education flavor. I believe that you have the capabilities to make the changes in your life.
